Tahitian Pearl is genuine pearl, also known as a South Sea Pearl. They are produced by a black-lipped saltwater oyster in the waters of Polynesia. They range from gray to black in color and the color is natural. These varieties are distinctive because of their unusual shades of color, including tones of blue-gray, gun-metal gray or greenish black. Fine quality Tahitian pearls are rare and more expensive than most other pearls. Remember, however, Tahitian black pearls are "naturally" black, not to be confused with a "natural" black cultured pearl, which can be irradiated or dyed and inexpensive compared to the Tahitian pearls.

Hessonite Garnet is a genuine garnet, but with the brown-red or orange color. It is also called the cinnamon stone. Hessonite is not a common garnet but is still part of the January birthstone. This garnet is found mainly in Sri Lanka and Brazail, with small deposits being found in Canada and the United States. Many people will purchase this color garnet if they already have the traditional red garnet or are looking for different colors of the garnet.

Blue diamonds are irradiated diamonds. They start out as a clear diamond and are intentionally treated to turn blue. A natural blue diamond is extremely rare and very, very valuable. The blue diamond is one of many "fancy-colored" diamonds and have all the same characteristics of a clear diamond, other than the color. The hardness is the same, as well as the grading.

The rarest and most expensive color for Tahitian black pearls is black with an irridescent peacock-green overtone. These pearls usually start at 9mm in size and go up.
